Community Action & Charities
CREW Pittsburgh Community Action is committed to delivering CREW Network’s mission within our local communities through education, community service, and personal impact.
In 2013 we introduced a roundtable forum to introduce college students and women looking to change careers to opportunities within the commercial real estate industry. Networking, relationship building and career development skills are the focal points of these half-day events.
Over the years the Community Action Committee have presented career panels at Chatham College, Point Park University, University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University, and LaRoche and Pittsburgh Technical College. Plans include Robert Morris University, Carlow College, and Carnegie Mellon University.
Satchels of Caring Foundation
On October 1, 2019, a small group of CREW Pittsburgh members, including Amanda Love, Communications Committee Director, volunteered their time at the Satchels of Caring Foundation. The Foundation began as a part of CREW Pittsburgh’s community involvement efforts in 2003 and in 2010 became their own charitable organization.?The Foundation collects donations of fabric and other materials that are crafted into tote-style satchel bags by volunteers.?Then each one-of-a-kind bag is filled with personal care items and messages of hope for women who are undergoing cancer treatments.?Volunteers at the CREW Pittsburgh event filled totes with socks and other items, attached handmade notecards, sewed buttons, and got creative to coordinate fabric patterns for future totes.?
The Foundation is set up to allow a variety of volunteers to come into their convenient, downtown space to prepare these totes.? Event organizer and past Committee Director, Eileen Iorio, said that it doesn’t take someone with special skills to volunteer for Satchels of Caring. Some of the tasks involve organizing the materials, cutting paper, or putting a tag on a tote.? All skill levels are welcome and needed at the Foundation.? For more information about the organization and the great work they are doing in our community, please visit their website at?www.satchelsofcaring.org. ? ? ?
