Virtual Wine Tasting

One of our Signature Events, the Wine Tasting, is an event that we all look forward to. And like last year, this year it was preceeded by a Past President’s Happy Hour to celebrate the devotion and hard work that every President demonstrates.

Then we were taken around the world by Dave DaSimone, our sommelier for the evening, of He is a French Wine Scholar with Bourgogne Masters Level Certification from the Wine Scholar Guild in Washington, D.C. He worked closely with our Events Director, Jenn Pavlik of DLA+ Architecture and Interior Design, to identify wines that we could purchase at our local Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores for a reasonable cost. They did an excellent job as all the wine tasters will attest. Conducted via Zoom meeting, Dave had us all to tell us about the wine he chose and then we broke out into smaller groups for some smaller networking. Break-out leaders asked questions like “What type of wine best describes your personality and why?” “What’s your reality TV Go-To?” “If there were an extra hour in every day, what would you do?”

Dave selected the wines and pairings below for us and when asked why wine should be chilled, he answered “A chilled wine brings out its freshness.” Chill white wines and red wines should be served at cellar temperature.

White Selection: 2019 Tania and Vincent Careme Terre Brulee “Le Blanc” Chenin Blanc, Swartland, South Africa. Food Pairing: Mild cheese, veggies

Rose Selection:? La Vieille Ferme Rose from France. Food Pairing: Seafood, Mild charcuterie meats

Red Selection: Jacob’s Creek Shiraz Reserve. Food Pairing: Spicy salami, Sharp cheese
